The intolerance towards Christians in this country has reached an all time high.
Liberals blast Christians at every opportunity, calling us “intolerant”. The truth is, most Christians are very tolerant. When you find us most intolerant is when you demand that we compromise or abandon our beliefs and the teachings of God to accommodate some behavior we know is wrong.
I support someone’s right to smoke tobacco is they choose. Where I draw the line is when I am forced to breath their smoke. The same is true of behaviors I find incomparable with the teachings of God. I do my best to apply those teaching to my own life. It is only when I am told I must accept those behaviors I see as morally wrong that I draw the line.
Don’t blow smoke in my face and don’t tell me what I must believe and accept.
I received an email today from Victoria Cobb that she sent to her mailing list. Ms. Cobb is the president of the Family Foundation, a Christian based organization that promotes and supports the traditional family (hence the name), especially legislatively. The organization is very involved with the laws and regulations our state lawmakers propose. Some they oppose, others they support and they are involved in shaping some legislation from time to time.
I count them as an important ally in the fight to regain this country.
The traditional family is a unit that is the time tested optimal conditions in which to raise children. And “gay” marriage, which is before the Supreme Court at present, is a contradiction in terms. “Holy matrimony” which we commonly consider synonymous with the word marriage muse, by definition and design, be between a man and a woman.
There is no point to homosexual marriage. Children are not produced and the basic reason to have children – continuation of the human species – is completely absent in same sex alignments.
Ms. Cobb penned an article that was published in the Richmond Times Dispatch in which she said:
Marriage is society’s least restrictive means of guaranteeing a child’s well-being. It is the most ancient welfare system known to mankind.
I also said that American law recognizes marriage between a man and a woman because it benefits society in a way no other relationship can — it alone has the potential to produce new members of society in a structure uniquely centered on the well-being of children.
From some of the comments, you would think Cobb was promoting something new and unheard of. One commenter, the very definition of an intolerant individual wrote:
“Ms. Cobb has been a scourge to reasonable thought process for decades. Not unlike an urban terrorist, she uses human shields to protect her homophobia from serious consideration, in this case they are children. She is an excellent example of the self-righteous hate mongering which has besmirched the reputation of Christians everywhere, making the word Christian synonymous with intolerance, and devoid of the “new commandment” we were given: Love one another.”
Hmmm. I think I clearly see the one filled with hate.
And those who seek to promote homosexual “marriage” are not as concerned with the “gay” marriage union itself, rather, they seek to tear down the institution of Holy Matrimony.
Why is that?
The commenter above actually shows his (or her) motive in the first sentence of the comment. Christians are unreasonable to this person. And the use of the word “homophobic” is another clue. A phobia is a fear. Cobb does not fear homosexuals, although we all fear the damage and destruction their radical agenda promotes. But there is no fear of the individual, or even the homosexual act itself. It is not fear that drives our beliefs, rather morality. In order to be the “tolerant” person the commenter thinks we ought to be, we would need to compromise our moral beliefs to accommodate their abnormal sexual preference. (And yes, homosexuality is abnormal. That is a statistical fact, not an opinion.)
And it is, in fact, not the duty or obligation of Christians like myself or Ms. Cobb to violate our Christian beliefs to be tolerant of immoral actions, but rather, it is constitutionally required that intolerant individuals like the person writing those comments to practice Christian tolerance towards Cobb and other Christians.
The Virginia Constitution states:
XVI That religion, or the duty which we owe to our Creator and the manner of discharging it, can be directed by reason and conviction, not by force or violence; and therefore, all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forbearance, love, and charity towards each other.
So Christians are entitled to their beliefs and have a duty to the Creator to follow His teachings.
Now Christians are also subject to the same Constitution. But when one group believes that their desire to obtain certain benefits from the state by marriage is in direct contradiction to the religious beliefs of another group, the State Constitution is quite clear in who has the right to their respective beliefs. Religion trumps.
And those who point to the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution and demand equal protection already have equal rights. They are allowed to marry someone of the opposite sex in every state. A man and a woman in a marriage will never be the equivalent to two people of the same sex in a marriage.
Most Christians will tell you they believe same sex arrangements are against the teachings of the bible. But they will not push to see such behavior outlawed – at least not these days.
Christians are tolerant until you demand that they adopt beliefs contrary to the Word of God.
The we can be unyielding.
Attempts to destroy Holy Matrimony is a line that may not be crossed.
